Welcome

At Plaxtol Primary School we have a dedicated Governing Body which supports the school strategically in all areas.

The purpose of maintained school governing bodies is to “conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school”.

The three main objectives of the Governing Body are:

  • ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Since 2012, Plaxtol Primary School Governing Body has operated through a ‘circle’ structure, which we feel is a dynamic and effective way of working.

The full Governing Body meets at least six times a year in the school, usually in the evenings, and in between we visit the school on a regular basis to monitor its activities.

The aims of the circle model of governance are:

  • continuous school improvement
  • effective strategic planning
  • robust monitoring and evaluation through monitoring in pairs/small groups.

If you are interested in becoming a Plaxtol Primary School Governor then for more information please contact Claire Rowley (Headteacher) or Kim Johnson (Chair of Governors). Contact details for governors are available from the School Office.
