Home Learning and Agreement

Home Learning at Plaxtol Primary School

Class teachers in Class 1, 2 and 3 send a weekly newsletter via Tapestry on a Friday about that week. Class 4 are expected to be able to talk to their parents about their learning independently.

Reading - All children in KS1 are expected to read or be read to for 10 minutes per day and in KS2 for about 20 minutes per day. Parents should record their comments in their child’s reading record in Classes 1 and 2, whilst children in Class 3 and 4 will record their own comments in their reading scrapbook.

Maths – This will be set via Maths Shed or Times Tables Rock Stars. Children in Class 3 and 4 should practise their times tables for 10 minutes per day.

Phonics – This will be set for Year R and Year 1 and should happen daily.

Spelling – This will be set for Year 2 to Year 6 via Spelling Shed and will link to the learning in class. Children will also be expected to learn the key spellings for their year group. These will be given out at the beginning of the year and are also on your child’s Class page on the school website.

Handwriting – The Letter-join handwriting programme is used at school to improve handwriting. We will be providing worksheets/logins for children to use this at home to reinforce the correct formation of letters.

Topic learning – This will only be set in Class 4 as the children are in Upper Key Stage 2 and this will help them prepare for the transition to Secondary School.
